  • The stone is cut with a standard circular saw and a masonry blade.


  •  Mark the cut line with a black permanent marker.


  • Set the saw blade a sixteenth of an inch deeper than the stone. And yes, you will cut into what is supporting the stone.

 

  • Make sure that the stone is fully supported when cutting. If some of the stone is raised, it could break away from its own weight as you're cutting through.

  • Cut the stone almost all the way through and then complete the cut from the opposite side. This will avoid any chipping.

 


That's it. If you're not familiar with using a circular saw, employ someone who is. You or they will notice that cutting the soapstone is in fact easier than cutting a sheet of plywood.

Note: If at any time you chip the stone, save the piece and epoxy it back on. Once sanded you'll never see it.
